Alter NRG's plasma gasification technology results in a reduced emissions profile for coal-fired power plants.
- Plasma gasification retrofit projects are eligible for CO2 offset credits when biomass or other renewable feedstocks are blended with coal.
- Instead of combusting coal directly, a plasma gasification system can be used to gasify coal and/or biomass (a renewable feedstock) to produce clean syngas, which can then be used to create electricity.
- Gasification results in a significant reduction in criteria emissions such as NOx, SOx and mercury that lead to acid rain, smog and polluted watersheds.
- CO2 emissions are reduced to levels similar to that of a natural-gas-fired facility when biomass and other renewable feedstocks are co-fed with coal into the gasifier.
