Market opportunity
NRG Energy's Somerset 6 produces 120MW of power. It is one of many NRG coal-fired units that are suitable for a plasma retrofit.
Retrofitting older generation technology with plasma gasification revitalizes these facilities into clean, modern and improved power plants with decades of additional annuity income from power. Alter Nrg and its strategic partner have identified more than 320 coal-fired units in North America that could be repowered using WPC technology.
How Alter Nrg creates value
WPC technology converts coal into syngas creating a cleaner combustion process that allows old facilities to meet increasingly stringent environmental standards. Alter Nrg has signed a license agreement with NRG Energy, the largest independent power producer in the United States, which will accelerate project opportunities and provide access to industry expertise. Alter Nrg will repower older NRG Energy coal-fired facilities with WPC's next generation technology. Each coal retrofit represents $15-$30 million in revenue to Alter Nrg and the option to make an equity investment of 10% to 25% in the project.
